More Jazz Anyone? Jazz Aberdeen’s ‘year round Jazz’ and International Festival plans unveiled. With its 5th birthday approaching, Jazz Aberdeen has decided to take a celebratory jump into 2008 with the launch of ‘year round’ Jazz events held at the Blue Lamp, Gallowgate every Thursday evening at 8pm beginning on 17th January. The Aberdeen-based promoter is expanding its popular eclectic programme of weekly events at the renowned Blue Lamp venue, which for the first time will continue throughout the year. The development of the programme will see another twenty excellent Jazz gigs being added to Jazz Aberdeen’s regular annual provision. An array of acclaimed International stars are booked to perform for our audiences into the New Year and beyond. Amongst them is Israeli-born saxophonist Gilad Atzmon’s Orient House Ensemble and the Neil Cowley Trio who won the 2007 BBC Best Jazz Album Award. To book tickets log on to www.jazzaberdeen.com or phone our ticket hotline number on 01224 619769. Not content with spoiling regular event goes with an abundance of additional performances, Jazz Aberdeen will be re-introducing their already established festival as the ‘Aberdeen International Jazz Festival’. The Festival will see amazing artists from around the globe hailing to the heart of Aberdeen to perform in various venues over a two week period. The Aberdeen International Jazz Festival will be launched in September 2009 and will then be held bi-annually. Jazz Aberdeen’s development coordinator Rhona Mitchell said: “We are really excited about these major developments for Jazz in the city. Being able to provide year round events will enable us to further develop the Aberdeen jazz audience and to liaise more effectively with other city based promoting organisations and festivals.” She added “The new festival will provide the very best of international jazz for both Offshore Europe visitors and local jazz fans.” Held over two weeks, the new festival will sit either side of the mid-week Offshore Europe Exhibition, which attracts over 30,000 visitors from all over the world, and will provide an irresistible attraction to jazz fans among the exhibition’s delegates to come to the Granite City early or stay a few days longer to enjoy the best of international jazz. The new festival replaces and enlarges upon the festival which Jazz Aberdeen has organised in the city during early March annually since 2003. |
