Jazz Scotland promotes and supports jazz and related musics in Scotland.
Our Festivals
Scotland's second largest jazz festival. A Multi-award winning celebration of jazz held over two weeks in March across the city.
A unique island festival known for its international collaborations, stunning setting and creativity - held over a weekend in mid-September.
Each year in November, Dundee comes alive with Hot Jazz and Blues for a week of concerts and workshops with a focus on the next generation of Scottish talent.
Our Community
Jazz Scotland wants to ensure that an ethical community programme is a fully-embedded strand of all our festival work.
At its core, this aim is about making sure that Jazz Scotland, as a publicly-funded organisation, is as relevant as it can be for a wide range of people
Aberdeen
Our community programme in Aberdeen is led by Melodie Fraser, an experienced Jazz singer and bandleader from, and based in the city. Regularly performing in Aberdeen with her own Latin Jazz band (Melodie and the Chillers), Mel is passionate about bringing live music to communities, organisations and settings that haven't had access in the past.
Dundee
Our community programme in Dundee is led by local musician and educator Seth Bennett. You can find creative workshops and events across Dundee all year round by clicking the image below.
His inspiration above all is a love for situations in which everyone involved, musicians and audience, have an equal input into the creation of the music.
Our Education
Jazz Scotland believes access to high-quality musical education to be a foundation of a thriving musical community.
We're working with creative partners across Scotland, through our festivals and through all-year round activity, to provide high quality education opportunities to everyone, no matter background and experience.
Our Artist Development
We deliver activity to support and develop established, emerging, and aspiring professional artists.
For example by commissioning new work and facilitating professional development support like networking, promotion and training, we aim to support artists at all stages of their careers as they develop within Scotland's musical sector.
These projects will take the form of commissions and residencies for research and development of ideas, composition, arrangement, rehearsal, and performance.
This more holistic support will allow artists the space to explore and bring their ideas to life, sharpening their skills and raising their profile as the final pieces are premiered at high-profile festival concerts.
For example - Aberdeen Jazz Festival's 'Dee Don Danube' is a collaboration with artists from Aberdeen’s twin city Regensburg, featuring local performers and continues to build international connections, with a return performance in Germany planned for July.
